BMA has partnered with Music In Common (5013-c) in Atlanta, GA to offer a free songwriting workshop to musicians from 8th grade to early college. The goal is to bring together diverse communities in or at risk of conflict. As a global non-profit, Music In Common curates experiences of facilitated conversation and music that make it possible for common ground to be discovered.

In collaboration with Music in Common’s flagship JAMMS program (Journalism As Music, Multimedia, and Songwriting), this songwriting workshop offers a culturally immersive and experiential opportunity for youth and adults. Through rich, meaningful discussions, participants explore each other’s backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. These conversations inspire the group to select a theme and collaboratively create a song.

Participants’ group song will be recorded and published at a later date on the BMA website with rights owned by Music in Common. Participants will be invited to perform the song in BMA Pop-Up Concerts in the 2025 season.
