BMA Policy FAQ’s
-
BMA's students are not participating in isolated lessons; they are participating in an ongoing educational program. The annual commitment allows BMA to plan faculty schedules, curriculum, performances, workshops, and resources around a student's continued development.
-
No.
Families who need flexibility can remain month-to-month. The month-to-month option will simply carry a 15% flexibility premium.
-
The annual rate is our preferred commitment rate.
Month-to-month enrollment gives a family the ability to leave with substantially less commitment, while BMA still has to reserve faculty availability and administrative resources.
The additional 15% helps compensate for that flexibility.
-
No.
Families choosing the Annual Artist Commitment receive the annual-contract rate.
The 15% difference applies specifically to families choosing the month-to-month option.
-
BMA's current contract has historically operated on a month-to-month model, and our tuition has not been meaningfully adjusted since 2023.
Since then, BMA has expanded the educational experience and continues to provide curriculum, recorded lessons, supplemental resources, performance opportunities, workshops, masterclasses, and other student opportunities.
The new structure allows tuition to better reflect the current BMA experience while still protecting families who choose the annual commitment.
-
Families may request an early termination under the contract's buyout provision.
The proposed buyout is limited to 25% of the annual tuition obligation or the remaining unpaid balance, whichever is less.
BMA's intention is to make the commitment meaningful while keeping the policy reasonable.
-
Twenty-five percent represents approximately three months of tuition.
This recognizes that when BMA reserves a student's recurring lesson time, faculty availability, and administrative capacity, an early departure can create a financial gap that cannot necessarily be replaced immediately.
The cap also prevents the buyout from becoming disproportionate late in the contract
-
ie: Parental Death, Job loss, Hospitalization, etc..
Please communicate with BMA as early as possible.
BMA's current contract already states that families experiencing hardship should contact the Academy regarding payment options.
The goal is to resolve genuine hardship situations individually rather than have families silently fall behind.
-
Yes, subject to the applicable BMA pause policy.
The current contract allows one lesson pause per year, with a maximum pause period of 60 days or 9- lessons, and specific requirements concerning outstanding payments and make-ups.
-
BMA intends to review tuition annually rather than allowing several years to pass without adjustment.
The existing contract already states that tuition rates may change annually and that students will receive 60 days' notice before a rate increase.
Annual review allows BMA to make smaller, more predictable adjustments rather than requiring a large correction after several years.
-
The annual commitment guarantees continued enrollment in the BMA program and a recurring lesson schedule, subject to priority faculty availability and BMA's ability to provide appropriate instruction.
If a faculty change becomes necessary, BMA will work with the student/family to provide an appropriate alternative.
-
Contact BMA to discuss the change.
Because BMA offers instruction in voice, piano, violin, and viola, the Academy can evaluate whether the student's annual commitment can continue under another eligible program.
-
Families should contact BMA as soon as they know about the move.
For students who relocate but can continue virtually, BMA may be able to maintain enrollment through online instruction. BMA's current guide specifically provides for both online and in-person instruction.
-
That's exactly why the annual commitment is designed to reward families who already view BMA as a long-term educational home.
Our students often remain with BMA for multiple years, not just a few months. The annual commitment simply formalizes the long-term educational relationship that many families already have with the Academy.
-
The primary benefit is the lowest tuition rate and rate protection for the contract year.
BMA may also offer annual-contract families priority access to limited-capacity opportunities, scheduling, workshops, masterclasses, and special programming.
